  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):

Lubricants / Penetrants

Q. What is moly? Which LPS products contain moly?
A. "Moly" is short for molybdenum disulfide, which is a naturally occurring mineral used as a solid lubricant additive to liquid lubricants and greases to increase their lubricating and wear prevention ability for high pressure or high temperature applications. LPS products containing moly: Force 842 Dry Moly Lubricant (part #02516) , ChainMate Chain & Wire Rope Lubricant (part #02416) , All-Purpose Anti-Seize (part #04108) and ThermaPlex Hi-Load Bearing Grease (part #70414).

Q. Does LPS still manufacture the MR-Series (mold release) products?
A. Yes. MR-550 is now Dry Film PTFE (part# 02616) , MR-650 is now Food Grade Silicone (part #01716) , and MR-750 is now Dry Film Silicone (part# 01616) . LPS originally designed these products to meet all industrial mold release requirements. However, these products had a much wider range of use so the names of the products were changed to broaden their usage.

Q. Does LPS 1, 2, 3 contain silicone?
A. No. All products that contain silicone have "silicone" in the name.

Q. What is the coefficient of friction for all of the LPS Anti-Seize products?
A. All-Purpose Anti-Seize 0.08, Copper Anti-Seize 0.095, Nickel Anti-Seize 0.15.

Corrosion Inhibitors

Q. What is the square foot coverage area of Cold Galvanize?
A. At 1.5 mils thick, an aerosol can of Cold Galvanize covers approximately 44 square feet, and a gallon of Cold Galvanize covers approximately 870 square feet.

Q. What product best removes LPS 3?
A. PreSolve is excellent for removing LPS 3 from metal surfaces.

Q. What is the square foot coverage area of LPS 3?
A. At 3.5 mils thick, an aerosol can of LPS 3 covers approximately 45.6 square feet Coverage depends on wet film thickness at 7 mils thick, it covers approximately 22.8 square feet. Bulk LPS 3, at 3.5 mils thick, covers approximately 456 square feet and at 7 mils thick covers approximately 228.20 square feet

Electrical/ electronic
Cleaners

Q. Does LPS have a contact cleaner that is compliant to California VOC standards?
A. LVC Contact Cleaner (part # 05416) is a brand new LPS product specifically formulated to address VOC concerns in California. LVC conforms to CARB requirements for VOC emissions, does not contain chlorinated solvents, and leaves behind no residue. All non-flammable LPS contact cleaners are CARB compliant.

Q. Are the LPS electrical/contact cleaners plastic safe?
A. Electro Contact Cleaner (ECC), PSC, and No Spark are designed to specifically address the issue of plastic safety. There are other LPS products in our lines that may be safe on the plastic in question, but you would need to test the product in an inconspicuous place before using on equipment.

Degreasers

Q. Which LPS industrial degreaser is best for removing heavy tars and adhesives?
A. Presolve is a high performance degreaser ideal for removing grease, adhesives, tars and oils.

Q. Does LPS manufacture a plastic safe degreaser?
A. Yes. Precision Clean, and BFX are plastic safe.

Q. Does LPS have a water-based "butyl" free industrial degreaser?
A. Yes, Precision Clean and BFX are water-based industrial degreasers that do not contain "butyl," a known toxin. This makes Precision Clean and BFX safer alternatives to many industrial water-based cleaners, while still providing superior degreasing action.

Greases

Q. What is the NLGI rating for LPS greases?
A. The NLGI rating for the LPS greases is 2. The NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute of America) number classifications range from 000-6. The higher the number, the thicker the grease.

Q. Does LPS offer a white lithium grease in bulk?
A. LPS offers a white lithium grease in a 16 oz. aerosol can.

Cutting
fluids

Q. Can LPS Tapmatic Cutting Fluids be used in re-circulation systems?
A. All of the Tapmatic Cutting Fluids are designed as specialized "hand applied" fluids for specific MRO concerns. Re-circulating systems are commonly associated with production applications rather than MRO, and are formulated with bacteriostats and other additives that control microbial growth.

Q. Can any of the LPS Cutting Fluids be diluted?
A. LPS Cutting Fluids are designed as direct application cutting fluids, therefore should not be diluted.

Q. Does LPS have a cutting fluid that could be considered a "general application" cutting fluid?
A. Yes, Tapmatic # 1 Gold is an excellent, all-purpose cutting fluid that can be used on all metals.
